About Murrells Inlet SC: Straddling Horry County to the north and unincorporated Georgetown County to the south, Murrells Inlet abuts Huntington Beach State Park along Highway 17. This historic Grand Strand fishing village, where old-timers are valued and newcomers are embraced, has retained its authentic charm thanks to a committed community of residents. This tranquil seaside inlet was first inhabited by the Waccamaw and Winyah Indians, who greeted European explorers as they arrived in the New World. Infamously brutal pirates, such as Captain Murrell and Blackbeard, also patrolled the offshore islands stashing unfound treasures. The coastline community produced dozens of successful rice plantations as well. Although the industry has ceased production, many of the historic mansions still grace the area.
